I N T E R P A G E Network Services Inc. ============================================================================ [] Fax Services Overview and Information Thank you for your inquiry regarding our fax services! This is an automated reply generated by Interpage's autoresponder, which should supply you with a general overview of our fax services, including features, options, and rates. Answers to specific questions, signup information, and other inquiries may be directed to: [] Telephone +1 (617) 696-8000 / FAX +1 (617) 850-0420 [] WWW: http://www.interpage.net (specifically, /sub-faxing.html) [] E-Mail: questions@interpage.net -- General service questions support@interpage.net -- Subscriber service inquiries Please find enclosed some basic information on Interpage's fax offerings, as well as a "help sheet" which we send to our customers, demonstrating some of the features and flexibility of Interpage's Fax Services. Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [] OVERVIEW Our InFax(sm) and OutFax(sm) services feature extensive user options and configurations, as well as nearly instantanous faxing and detailed confirmation reports. We offer telnet, WWW, and mail access to information and configuration options for your personalized fax account. Interpage Fax customers can benefit from: [] Real-time, online monitoring of fax traffic through our system [] Fast, instant faxing [] Widely configurable Telnet and WWW Interface to control fax options [] Use of their own cover sheets [] A variety of non platform specific / non-proprietary supported file formats for fax uploading, including DOC, attached DOC, PostScript levels 1 and 2, PDF, RTF, test, and uuencoded or Zipped versions of the above. [] Economical US and International rates [] Real-time overview and detailed billing summaries -- receive a copy of your cumulative bill at any time, directly via Telnet or the WWW [] A series of robust, reliable, and detailed confirmation reports sent via e-mail. [] Group lists and management [] Online Fax storage and Fax viewing [] Many fax features can be integrated for specific faxing needs. ------------- In general then, here is an outline of the fax services which we currently offer: [] OutFaxing: Send a fax from e-mail to ANYWHERE in the world: Individuals or groups may now create and dispatch a fax FROM anywhere in the world TO anywhere else by simply sending an e-mail message to Interpage. Both individual and group users can realize significant cost savings over traditional international toll rates by transmitting a fax message through Interpage. Interpage's Fax Dispatch ("OutFax" (SM)) service is fully featured in that it allows users to add or remove cover sheets, upload a DOC (plain or attached), RTF, PDF, or PostScript file instead of sending text, add accounting codes to individual faxes, and serves as a way to monitor fax costs by detailed billing and confirmation reports mailed back to the Interpage user. Users may send us their own cover sheets which will be used in place of a default "Interpage" cover sheet. Users may upload databases of fax numbers and recipient names which will be faxed to the specified destinations. Recipient names will appear on either the cover sheet if one is used, or if not, the name will appear on top of the fax page, where the "Station ID" message is normally displayed (the recipient fax must support this feature). Recipient databases may be edited online via telnet, or by sending commands by e-mail to Interpage's mail configuration editor. Once a command is received, a confirmation is sent back indicating that it successfully effectuated a change to your account, and what the changes were. The telnet and mail configuration allow you to make *instant* changes to your fax options and recipients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. ------------ [] InFaxing: E-Mail to Fax dispatch, (and paging). Anyone with a fax machine may establish a presence on the Internet! Interpage will assign an InFax (SM) customer a user ID on our system, or we will register a domain if the customer desires a more personalized, or "businesslike" account. (e.g., "Don" may choose "don@doncompany.com") Whenever mail arrives at an InFax customer's account, it will be immediately faxed out to one or more given fax machine(s). The InFax customer will be able to respond immediately to their e-mail messages, and never have to log on again 'just to check' to see if there is potentially important new mail. Interpage can also page an InFax customer when a fax is dispatched so that he/she may attend to the fax more rapidly, as well as direct a given piece of e-mail to a specific fax machine based on the sender, subject header information, and/or time of day. We can also restrict the number of fax pages which will be sent as a result of inbound e-mail, "lock out" certain senders from generating a fax, and set up a highly diversified system of screens to allow only the e-mail faxes which an InFax customer wishes to receive to get through. ----------------- [] FaxUp (SM) - Upload Faxes to E-Mail and immediate re-broadcast Interpage's FaxUp service allows you to have a "fax mailbox" which will convert faxes sent to your mailbox number to a UUENCODED graphics format, viewable on our WWW server or which can subsequently be mailed to your or any number of other recipients, instantly. To view files from our WWW server, you will need Netscape, Mosaic, or some other graphics based Web browser. After entering your account name and security code, you will be presented with a list of faxes. You may then view them online, forward them as e-mail, have them sent to another fax machine, store them, or delete them. FaxUp also serves as a fax re-broadcast service: Faxes can be sent to your FaxUp mailbox, and instantly re-transmitted to any number of fax and/or e-mail addresses. You may also control access to your re-broadcast service, and allow only faxes which *you* designate to be re-distributed to one or more of your distribution lists. ----------------- [] Intertalk (SM) - Retrieve and Fax your E-Mail by Telephone Interpage's InterTalk service serves as a gateway between the Internet, the voice telephone network, and your fax machine. Interpage customers may use Intertalk to "screen" their e-mail, by listening to the a voice transcription of their e-mail header information over the telephone. If the customer wishes to receive a full-text version of their mail, he or she may direct Intertalk to fax a given piece of e-mail to any fax machine worldwide. Intertalk will allow a customer to "scroll back" through their most recent e-mail messages, from newest to oldest, and select the messages to be faxed out on a message-by-message basis. Intertalk may also be used to redirect e-mail for a given period of time to any fax machine worldwide. This is particularly useful when away from the office on a business trip: An Interpage customer may forward all e-mail from one hotel to another, and keep up with important e-mail without having to log on regularly to check. With Intertalk, e-mail can be waiting for you at your hotel when you arrive, allowing you the opportunity to quickly review it and answer the more important messages immediately. ----------- [] WWW WebReach (SM) Service: Interpage's WWW WebReach service allows a business or individual to place one or more WWW "pages" on Interpage's server, which may then be viewed by the entirety of the Internet community. However, we go beyond traditional WWW server offerings in that we utilize Interpage's faxing and paging services to allow WebReach customers to be notified of inquiries, new customer orders, and/or callback requests immediately, without ever requiring the WebReach customer. WebReach customers may place signup forms, customer question sheets, or any other form on Interpage's Web server. Interested parties may fill out the forms online, and when the form is completed, it will be immediately faxed, e-mailed, and/or paged to the WebReach customer. As a result, order-taking becomes more streamlined, and customers receive a more timely response. WebReach customers may also upload their literature, brochures, promotions, etc. to their Web pages. When a customer or interested party browses their Web pages, and sees some information which he or she would like faxed to them, Interpage will immediately send the customer the desired information via fax to whatever number the customer enters (we can restrict these calls to certain areas, if desired.) Additionally, WebReach customers who own pagers may elect to have an "Urgent" or "Callback" option. With this option, a customer or interested party who is browsing their Web pages may decide that he or she would like a callback, and will then be presented with the option of entering a phone number and/or additional text information (depending on whether the WebReach customer has an alpha or numeric pager). As soon as the customer completes the call-back message, it is instantly paged out to the WebReach customer's pager, who can then respond immediately. -------- Interpage will shortly be adding additional fax services to our current spectrum of offerings. Please consult our Web pages, send e-mail, or call us directly for more information. Thanks for your interest in Interpage's Fax services - please call or e-mail "questions@interpage.net" if you have any questions, etc. Best Regards, Interpage Support Interpage Network Services Inc. questions@interpage.net +1 (617) 696-8000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I N T E R P A G E Network Services Inc. FAX Services ============================================================================== InFax/OutFax Configuration Information [] Instructions and Specifications of the Interpage Fax System for: -INward Faxing, which refers to faxes which will be sent to your fax or any other number of faxes worldwide, generated as a result of all/some inbound email. Faxes are automatically delivered to the destinations selected under Option 6. For more information on how to set up InFaxes, please consult the Interpage Manual, on our Web site (www.interpage.net), or via Telnet access (telnet interpage.net, log in as "guest" or your existing username). -OUTward Faxing, which refers to faxes which you may send to anyone in the world by sending mail to -config@interpage.net. Thus, to send a fax to New Orleans telephone number (504) 555-1212, user Joe would send to: To: joe-config@interpage.net Subject: fax 5045551212 ...and type up his message, send it, and his fax message will be delivered to (504) 555-1212 in a matter of minutes. (NOTE: International calls should use the US/Canada "011" prefix prior to the destination number, ie: "01144815551212" to fax to "81-555-1212" in the UK.) However, many users may want to configure the way their faxes will "look", that is, they may prefer that faxes be darker and wish to use a bold font, or feel that the font itself is too small, and require a slightly larger one, etc. As a result, we have just added a configuration menu to allow all of our users to set defaults for their faxes. These defaults will be applied to all OUTward Faxes ("Outfaxes"), and a number of them will also apply to INward Faxes ("Infaxes") as well. You may change your default settings whenever you wish, as often as you wish, and the changes will be reflected immediately in any subsequent faxes which you send. In order to configure (or re-configure) you fax settings, please log on (via telnet) to "interpage.net", enter your username and password (let us know if you forgot your password or it doesn't work). You may also access these settings via the World Wide Web at www.interpage.net. You will notice a new section labeled: "5. View/Edit Faxing Style" (or on the WWW "Configure Fax Settings") If you select this, you should see the following menu: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Faxing style for account joe A. Maximum pages, infax : 10 B. Maximum pages, outfax : 10 C. Include mail headers : All D. Add cover page : on E. Use high-resolution faxing : on F. Page layout : 1-up G. Font : Courier H. Bold : on J. Font point size : 10 K. Outfax success confirmation : on L. Outfax failure confirmation : on M. Maximum number of retries : default N. Delay between retries : default O. Individual cover pages : off P. Left margin indent : 0 points R. Paper size : Letter S. Max retries on no carrier : default T. Header on text faxes : None Return to redraw. Q to quit. Option: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- You will note that some of these options only allow you to control aspects of the Outfax option. This is because some of these features are either not relevant to Infaxing, or may be configured elsewhere, such as when you set up an Infax in the "Scheduling" section. (For more information on setting up a schedule, please refer to our manual on our WWW server, at http://www.interpage.net, or mail us and we will be glad to send you one.) Description of some of a user's Fax configuration features: A. Maximum Pages, infax: used to set an upper limit on how many pages will be faxed to you when inbound email is received. Thus, if someone chose to send you a text file on all words which begin with vowels which was 200 pages long, you would *only* receive whatever number of pages you specified in this setting, which in "joe's" account (above) was 5. B. Maximum Pages, outfax: Same as "A", but for Outfaxes. Useful if you tend to send a lot of faxes, and want to be sure that in the event that you accidentally include the above vowel list in your fax to someone that they don't have to watch 200 pieces of fax paper be wasted! This will effectively prevent you from sending unintentionally long e-mail. C. Include mail headers: OUTFAX ONLY. If "off" a mail header will not be generated on the page. This will speed up fax time and make your fax appear as a regular, typed letter. If "on", the standard e-mail header will be included. D. Add cover page: OUTFAX ONLY (The cover sheet option for Infaxes is set when you schedule an Infax in the "Scheduling" section.) If "on", an "Interpage" cover sheet will be generated with the actual fax, with routing/ destination information if you supply it. If "off", a cover sheet will not be generated. E. Use high-res faxing: If "on", Interpage will attempt to send the fax in "high resolution mode", which is clearer, yet slower than low-resolution. (NOTE that some faxes may only receive in lowres mode, so even if you have hires mode set "on", the fax at the receiving end will appear as a low-resolution fax.) If "off", low-resolution faxing will be used. F. Page layout: Page layout will allow you to send a number of fax pages simultaneously on one page. You may chose from 1, 2, or 4 pages to appear on a given single page at the receiving end. G. Font: Allows you to select what font you wish your faxes to appear in, either Courier, Helvetica, or Times. H. Bold: Bold "on" will result in all of your faxes having darker print, which in some cases will be more legible on older, thermal fax machines. Bold "off" will result in faxes with normal print. J. Font point size: Allows you to chose the point size which all text will be printed in on the receiving end's fax. 10 or 12 points is what most people use, although the range offered runs from as small as 6 points to as large as 20 points, which is useful for the visually impaired. K. Outfax success conf: Will transmit an email message to you telling you that your fax was successfully sent to the destination machine. "On" results in confirmations; "Off" prevents confirmations from being sent to you. L. Outfax failure conf: Will transmit an email message to you in the event that your fax message was not successful after multiple tries. We suggest you keep this option "On", so that you will be alerted when a fax has failed. "Off" will prevent notification of failure from being emailed to you. M. Maximum number of retries: Set the maximum number of times Interpage's fax server should try to connect if the line of the destination fax machine is busy. N. Delay between retries: Set the time interval between retries P. Left margin indent: Set how far to the left text/graphics begin on your fax pages; useful for non-standard paper sizes. R. Paper size: Set standard paper sizes. S. Max retries on no carrier: Set the number of tries that Interpage will try your fax in there is no answer (NOT busy) to prevent repeated calls to a non-fax number. T. Header on text faxes: Set any text header you would like to appear on top of a given text fax page. (Infax failures and confirmations are set when you schedule an Infax.) Finally, some of these settings may be overriding in OUTfaxing by use of the following commands, all of which must be placed in the Subject: line of an outfax, with a space between it and anything near it. All these options will ignore/overide your default settings, above. -postscript Body is a plaintext postscript file -postscript2 Body is a postscript file, as text, but search for "%!PS-Adobe" before starting and "%%EOF" to end -uups replaces fax uuencode -postscript and fax -postscript2 Enables customer to send uuencoded (and gzipped, if they desire) postscript (level 1, 2, or PDF) files for faxing. -doc Body may be any of the following: *Uuencoded MS Word DOC file *GZipped uuencoded MS Word DOC file *Uuencoded RTF file *GZipped uuencoded RTF file *MIME/ATTACHED MS Word DOC file *MIME/ATTACHED RTF file (MIME/ATTACHMENT detection is automatic) -doca Forces file to be decoded as MIME/ATTACHED DOC or RTF file -text Body is a regular text message -delay H:M:S Delay the sending H hours, M minutes, and S seconds -pgp Body is ASCII armor PGP encoded -lowres Send the fax as low resolution (also -lores) -highres Send the fax as high resolution (also -hires) -noheaders Strip out the e-mail headers (text only) -headers Keep all headers (text only) -someheaders Keep only important headers (text only) -bold Use a bold font (text only) -plain Use a non-bold font (text only) -cover Add a cover page -layout 1/2/4 Put one, two, or four pages per page (text only) -columns N Reformat the fax to N columns (text only) -confsucc A Send a success confirmation to address A (multiple times) -conffail B Send a fail conf to address B (can be used multiple times) -quesucc C Send a successful queue confirmation to C (multiple times) -quefail D Send a failed queue confirmation to D (can use multiple times) -fontsize 6-20 Use a font from 6-20 points (text only) -font F Use selected font: courier, helvetica, or times (text only) -code C Mark fax with code C -stored xxxxxx Send a fax stored in with FaxUp with index # xxxxxx -fr Changes the "From:" field on the cover sheet Syntax: -from ", just quotes" -re Puts a "Re: " message on the cover sheet; needs a special cover sheet. Also, X-Re in the headers can be used to accomplish the same thing; both "-re" and "X-Re" can be used simultaneously and their content of both will be displayed. Syntax: -re ", just quotes" save Send a fax to your WWW storage area for viewing from the WWW (as in "Subject: fax save", where "save" replaces a tel.#) list replace: Used to upload lists or multiple recipients to a list. Subject: list replace fax ...will create a list named with for faxing. Lists should be two columns, separated by at least one space. The recipient phone number is placed in the first column, and Station ID info appears in the second. Thus e-mail with: Subject: list replace groupa fax 2135551212 John Smith 6175551212 Jane Smith ...will result in a list of two entries, called "groupa". (To use/send to your lists, see below.) Examples: #1. To: joe-config@interpage.net Subject: fax -cover -hires -bold 3125551212 John, extension 3322 ....will result in Interpage ignoring whatever default "cover", "resolution" and "bold" settings Joe has in his "Faxing Style" settings, and send a fax to (312) 555-1212, with the words "To: John, extension 3322" on the cover sheet. The fax will be sent in hires mode, and all text will appear in bold. #2. To: joe-config@interpage.net Subject: fax -nocover -plain 8185551212 John, at the water cooler. ....will result in a fax to (818) 555-1212, in plain text. The "To:" line "John, at the water cooler" will NOT be sent, as the "-nocover" override is present, and thus no cover sheet will be generated. All other settings will be subject to Joe's defaults. #3. To: joe-config@interpage.net Subject: fax -postscript 2135551212 John ....will result in a fax to (213) 555-1212 as a true reproduction of the PostScript file which is added to the body of the letter as TEXT, not as an attachment. You may also use commas (,) between destination phone nubers to specify multiple recipients: #4. To: joe-config@interpage.net Subject: fax 2135551212,2125551212,9045551212 ....will send the same fax to all the above destination numbers. You may also specify a Group List, or individual telephone numbers AND a group list(s): #5. To: joe-config@interpage.net Subject: fax group1 ....will send a fax to everyone listed on "Group1". #6. To: joe-config@interpage.net Subject: fax group1,joegroup,group2 ....will send a fax to everyone listed on "Group1", "joegroup", and "Group2". #7. To: joe-config@interpage.net Subject: fax group1,2125551212,group2 ...will send a fax to everyone listed on "Group1", to telephone number (212) 555-1212, and to everyone listed on "Group2". NOTE: To create and set groups, telnet to interpage.net, select Option 8, select "Edit/Create Fax Group Lists", and follow the prompts. To upload group lists, please contact "help@interpage.net" for assistance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I N T E R P A G E - Fax Trial Form =========================================================================== [] Fax Activation Form. Thank you for you interest in Interpage and our e-mail and standalone fax services! Interpage invites you to explore the variety of fax-based services and offerings which are always at your disposal as an Interpage customer. In order to fully evaluate our fax services, we offer a free one-week (7 day) trial of certain fax services, including the InFax(sm) and OutFax(sm) services, during which time you may have full access to our system, and only pay the per-use cost of any phone charges incurred while sending out faxes. Some services do not always incur toll charges, so we only ask that you pay for what you use. If you do not incur any per-use charges, then you will not be billed anything if you decide at the end of the trial not to continue and notify us by e-mai, fax, or contacting us during business hours (voicemail cancellations are not effective). During the trial, you will NOT be billed any startup, service plan, or other fees. You will only be billed for any TOLL calls which you place during the free one-week trial. If you like our services, and consider them to be worthwhile, and the end of the week we will change the billing status of your account and bill you a one-time start-up fee ($10 for credit card customers), and put you on the "Basic"/$10 per month fax (and paging) plan. You are free to select any other rateplan, and to do so any time during or after your trial. Please let us know before the first of any given month in order for the plan to take effect during the upcoming month. NOTE: FaxUp and WebFax Pro services are not eligible for the free trial and have diifferent price structures; please refer to their respective WWW pages for details. During the trial, we will only bill your account when you use our Fax service to call a non-800/888/877 fax That is, should we incur a toll charge, which we will pass along to you. If you also wish to receive either an alpha or numeric (or both) page to alert you that you have a fax waiting on our InFax(sm), FaxUp(sm), WebReach(sm) or other fax-based or fax-integrated services, there will also be a charge for each page unless your pager(s) has an 800/888/877 number or 800/888/877 IXO/TAP access number, or we have a pre-existing relationship with your paging carrier. (Please contact us for details.) You may monitor your usage via Telnet or the WWW and receive real-time fax queuing, transmission (for certain rateplans), billing, and aggregate billing information. Additionally, you may "fax" your files to our WWW server and view them online -- they will appear precisely in the manner as they would have had they been sent to a "real" fax machine. If you are interested in our one-week trial, we would ask that you do the following: 1. Complete the test form below, or call us and we will gladly fax one to you. 2. We will need to make sure that you can pay for any toll calls which you generate. Thus, we will need an American Express Card, VISA, Mastercard, Diner's Club/Carte Blanche or Discover which will only be billed if any toll charges are incurred. We will provide you with an itemized page statement/bill for your own records. Please enclose a *legible* photocopy or imprint of your credit card. 3. You may also try us out by paying with a check or money order PRIOR to the commencement of the one-week trial. You may send us a check for any amount over $50, and we will refund the unused portion at the end of the trial. If you chose to stay on, we can, if you wish, apply any unused portion towards your service. 4. Fax the completed form to us at +1 (617) 850-0420, and we will promptly set you up. You may also mail the entire form (with signature and credit card number and photocopy/imprint) to us at: Interpage Network Services Inc. M/S 4007 Activations Box 4022 Hartford, CT 06147-4022 ...and that's it! We'll have you up and running for the test right after we receive this information from you. There is no obligation to stay on with us if you don't like the service for any reason; you are ONLY responsible for toll charges, if any.
